The retreat in Alajuela, Costa Rica was an incredible opportunity to reconnect with nature, the universe and the self. It’s such a non-stop busy and demanding world we live in. It’s so important that we take a moment once in a while to breathe, think and reflect without all of the distractions that come with daily life.
From the daily meditations and yoga practice to the Hammam and luxurious spa treatments such as massage, body-wrap and Reiki, the retreat gave me the space to find peace, clarity, and serenity.
The retreat surroundings were absolutely stunning – the resort sits on a hill overlooking the Costa Rican rainforest filled with luscious greenery and wildlife, while the retreat incorporates waterfalls and fountains into the design of the space. It was the ideal place to explore my deepest thoughts, emotions, and spirituality. To relax into nothingness through meditations every morning was pure bliss.
I’ve continued with daily meditations and yoga practice since the retreat, as well as, healthy eating and incorporating nourishing vitamins and pro-biotics into my meals. Since Costa Rica, I don’t feel as rushed and impatient as I have in the past. I’m also more mindful of my activities day to day.
Meditating at sunrise in the yoga pavilion overlooking the majestic rainforests of Costa Rica while listening to the birds chirping and water running was absolutely the most memorable moment of the retreat. The complete pureness of being at one with nature, the connectedness of it all, was incredibly moving.
The layout of the center has great Feng Shui, it is very thought out and wonderfully designed. As you enter the main building, you can’t help but notice the high ceilings with skylights and splendid white pillars that line the hallway to the outdoor area. The opening features a picturesque ionized tempered natural pool with very inviting white cabana chairs. However, it is the magnificent view overlooking the rainforest that is the most breathtaking of all.
The food is also very mindful. The chef is skilled in vegan and vegetarian cooking with further options for pescatarians and meat-eaters alike. The gazpacho is delectable and the variety of teas abundant. The menu asserts biogenic and organic, which was appreciated.
When I was searching for a yoga retreat to attend, this experience was a bit pricier than other retreats I found online. However, that being said, the Asclepios Wellness & Healing Center was absolutely beautiful. The rooms were also well designed with large terrace doors in both the bedroom and bathroom that overlooked the grand landscape. The food was some of the best vegan fare I have ever had. The instructor and organizer, Valeria of Waterthruskin is a wonderful soul both inside and out, and I would highly recommend experiencing one of her upcoming retreats.
